The Texas Stars Baseball Club is a not-for-profit, family oriented, youth baseball organization that is administered by family volunteers. We have one paid position – Head Coach Kevin Vital.
– Head Coach
Coach Vital, originally from Louisiana, brings a plethora of experience that he has been fortunate to learn from the game of baseball. Vital has an extensive athletic career and educational background. During his journey as a student-athlete at Loreauville High School, he was a multi-sport athlete who received Honors in baseball, basketball and All-State Honors in football. After concluding his academic journey at Loreauville, he attended Southern University where he received a baseball scholarship and earned his Bachelors Degree.
In college, Vital served as the Captain of the Southern University Baseball Program under the tutelage of legendary Coach Roger Cador from 2000-2003. During this time, the program dominated the Southwestern Athletic Conference by winning three straight conference titles, averaging forty wins a season, shattering Division 1 NCAA records in multiple offensive categories as a team. Individually, Vital was nominated for the First-Team-All-Louisiana and SWAC 1st Team-All Conference. He was also ranked nationally in several offensive categories which include RBI’S, Home Runs per game, slugging percentage and walks per game. At the end of the historic 2003 championship season, they captured the NCAA regional victory over Southern Mississippi. Upon completion of his Senior season, Vital would be fortunate to be selected in the 18th round of the Major League Baseball draft by the Houston Astros. While in the Minor Leagues, he played three seasons with Martinsville Astros in Virginia, Tri-City Valleycats in New York, and Lexington Legends in Kentucky where he had the opportunity to further develop his baseball talents in multiple positions and work with several renowned former and current MLB players throughout his career.
In 2009, Vital was hired as an assistant baseball coach and was accepted into the education graduate program at Alcorn State University. There, he assisted in recruiting players across the nation, developing players mentally and physically and mentoring and motivating young men to become successful student-athletes. In his three-year tenure as hitting coach, the Alcorn baseball program won its first conference title in school history seeing a few players earning the opportunity to play professional baseball. Vital completed his Master’s Program in Education with an endorsement of Professional School Counseling and for the past six years, he has worked in the Lafayette Parish school system as a School Counselor and Head Baseball Coach.
In all of his roles, Vital has impacted and mentored student-athletes with professional guidance, knowledge of important topics such as intrinsic and extrinsic motivation, ACT, NCAA Clearinghouse, GPA, LHSAA eligibility criteria, College Admissions and Financial Aid/Scholarship applications. He understands the important responsibility of being a student-athlete and competing at high levels and can assist your child/student in understanding how to best prepare for future successes on and off the field.
Vital is married to his beautiful wife Raimy and they relocated to North Dallas in April 2018. He is looking forward to working with the great families in the North Texas area by assisting and developing baseball players who desire to earn an opportunity to play competitive baseball in high school and at the college level.
